Boys Night Out

I have such vivid memories of my Grandfather (above) mixing his Bourbon Manhattan every afternoon for 4 o'clock cocktail hour. That said, I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the kind of man who would find himself in his element at Whisky Cafe... with a huge selection of over 150 scotch whiskeys, and tastings available by brand or region, its the perfect place for a gentlemen's drink with friends.

Burgundy Lion is where you would've found me last weekend, flipping through Vogue, as my boyfriend focused intensely on the all-important football match casting over the big screen. And as I looked around, I couldn't help but wonder what a perfect mention this place would be for this feature. It has a British sense of cool with a classic pub interior that's original in style, and is conveniently situated right across the street from Liverpool house, where you could dine any night of the week before coming over for a drink...or two.

Although Garde Manger boasts Food Network fame, I'd imagine most locals wouldn't even know it. Drawn in by the sumptuous seafood (try their platter), decadent classics (their lobster poutine) and a solid playlist that gets everyone dancing by midnight, its a small restaurant with mass appeal; the crowd is a mix of foodies, hipsters, and in-the-know visitors.

L'Orignal on Urbanspoon

Tucked away on a secluded little side street in Old Montreal, walking into L'Orignal makes you feel as though you've just uncovered some secret, ultra-cool hunting lodge. And, even better, its a hunting lodge that just so happens to have killer oysters and great food. The cozy underground restaurant, outfitted with large stone, warm woods, and the occasional moose head, comes from restaurateurs Monika Terlecki and Travis Champion, formerly of Garde Manger. And with chef Marcos Santos tweaking the menu every few months (their new menu just came out this week), its the kind of place that will never bore. Also, don't forget to stop by Monday's for their industry night; their playlist is so good that I feel like I spend the entire night, cellphone in hand, hand in air, shazaming every song so I won't forget to download them post-sunrise.

Located on Rue Notre Dame near Atwater Market, Liverpool House (of Joe Beef lineage) is a Little Burgundy hideaway with a cool, cottage vibe. Dimly lit and always bustling, its a great place to share cheers, drinks, and market French plates with friends.
