In the family tree of fashion, a Mimi & Coco tee shirt is a second cousin to the little black dress; both are closet staples that will always make you look good, regardless of how quickly you need to accomplish sartorial style. That’s why I was thrilled when Vince, one half of the brother-sister duo behind the label, told me they were set to open a new boutique on Laurier last year.

Their latest addition to a growing list of Montreal locations is set on the picture perfect street of Laurier, one of my favourites in the city. Opened in May 2008, the shop is a colourful array of tanks, tees and long sleeve tops, all made in Italy.

Inspired by La Dolce Vita and the beaches of Italy, Mimi & Coco as a brand embodies everything I love about fashion. The fit is fabulous, and the fabrics are of amazing quality. The black crew tee I bought from them years ago still looks über chic (and hasn't greyed!) when I pair it with leggings and riding boots for an equestrian inspired look.

Last but not least, I mustn’t forget to mention Mandy’s, the adorable salad bar and local lunch spot found in the back of the store. Here, you can create your own, choose one of their many classics (the December Salad is a must!) or opt for one of their seasonally inspired salads-of-the-month. Grab a seat at one of the few antique chairs and tables, or take it to go for something healthy on the run!
